"Meeting the various needs of Austin's ever evolving diverse population requires knowledge of resources available to community members and relationships across many sectors. Welcome Center's program coordinator worked with an individual who was preferred by a pastor in town. They had many needs including: language support in Dinka, food insecurity, finding employment, and an open social security disability case. After a needs assessment, Varinh realized the client was a good candidate for the Senior Community Service Employment Program.
She assisted the client in application and sat in on their orientation to the program. The client was able to receive a stipend as they searched for employment and acquired ne work skills. Varinh met biweekly with the client to assist with turning in their timesheet and complete lessons in their workbook. She also helped the client connect with their adult children so they would have a stable living arrangement."
