LIFE Mower county

Our Place Recreation Center
"LB is a 34-year-old woman that has been a member of Our Place Recreation Center for several years. She is very involved in her church. She has gone on mission trips and traveled with her parents internationally. She lives in a group home with two other women. She is very active in Our Place Recreation Center and Special Olympics. LB had heard from the other Rec. Center members that there was an opening on the Board of Directors for a self-advocate representing the members of the Rec. Center. LB talked to the Executive Director about being on the Board. They also talked about joining the People First Aktion Club which is a group of Self-Advocates that work together to learn skills to speak for themselves and work together on projects with other self-advocates to bring awareness to the community about individuals with disabilities. They fundraise to support community initiatives and give back to the community causes.

She is a ball of fire. She has joined the LIFE Mower County Board of Directors and is now an active member of the People First Aktion Club. Her success is because she has a very involved family, and she has made many new friends and mentors to guide her along the way."
