community investment volunteers

Overview
United Way of Mower County invites you to learn more about the critical needs in our area and ensure donor dollars are invested appropriately as a Community Investment panel volunteer. UWMC's Community Investment process is that in which local programs submit written funding requests to be reviewed and discussed by community volunteers. Volunteers then make informed funding recommendations to UWMC's Board of Directors.

Qualifications
Community Investment volunteers must be current supporters of United Way of Mower County - meaning a donation of any amount has been or will be made to the 2024-25 Community Campaign.

Expectations/Time Commitment
Volunteers will sign up to participate on virtual and in-person panel(s) that are categorized by UWMC impact area - Health, Education, Income, and Basic Needs. Volunteer tasks include:

  1. Panel Preparation: Review digital training materials, written grant applications, and additional documentation on your own
  2. Interview Panel: Participate in a live Zoom meeting with panel volunteers and program applicants - open question and answer session
  3. Funding Panel: Participate in an in-person meeting with panel volunteers - collaborative program evaluation and funding discussion

Time commitments vary by impact area based on the number of grant applications submitted. Volunteers should be prepared to dedicate 10-20 hours of their time to this important effort. Finalized dates are listed (and estimated figures italicized) below:
