LIFE Mower County:
Special Olympics

DK and JP are two Special Olympics athletes who love to bowl, but they faced a challenge that many people don’t think about. They did not have their own bowling shoes, a bowling bag, or a bowling ball. Each week, they had to use the bowling alley’s shared equipment. The shoes didn’t always fit well, and the bowling balls were often too heavy, too light, or already worn down. This made it harder for them to feel confident and prepared. It also made them feel different from other bowlers who had their own gear.

Through the Special Olympics bowling program at LIFE Mower County, DK and JP were able to stay involved and keep practicing, even without the equipment they needed. Then, something extraordinary happened. An anonymous supporter provided funding so LIFE Mower County could purchase brand new bowling equipment just for them. DK and JP each received their own bowling shoes, bowling bag, and bowling ball.

Since receiving their new equipment, both athletes have shown significant improvement. They walk into the bowling alley with more pride and confidence. They are excited to practice and feel they truly belong on the team. Their bowling skills have improved because they can now use equipment that fits and works best for them every time. Most importantly, DK and JP have gained self-esteem and look forward to bowling each week with greater confidence in themselves.
