Reading Corps:

I recently graduated from Austin High School and joined AmeriCorps to explore future career paths. I like helping people, and I saw how my brother struggled with reading. I wanted to be able to help kids with reading and see them grow. I plan to use my Education Award to pay for future college expenses.
– Berenice Velasquez Perez, Reading Corps Member | Banfield Elementary

I graduated high school in 2023 and am in my second year at Riverland Community College. I am studying Elementary Education and will attend Winona State University next year. I joined Reading Corps because I want to help kids be confident in themselves and their abilities, especially their abilities to read and communicate. I will be using the Education Award to help pay for my education at Winona State University, studying elementary education.
– Ava Wahlstrom, Reading Corps Member | Neveln Elementary
This is my 4th year with Reading Corps. Before serving with AmeriCorps/Reading Corps, I was a preschool teacher for 18 years. I know that I’m making a difference when I see a huge smile on my students’ faces or when I see them start to enjoy reading. I’ll be using my Education Award to pay off my student loans.
– Meredith Martin, Reading Corps Member | Neveln Elementary
