Hometown Food Security Project
2026 Update

The Hometown Food Security Project has been reducing day-to-day operations as we realign our work with long-term community strategies. As we move into this transition, we want to recognize and celebrate the meaningful impact this initiative has had across Austin and Greater Mower County.

Through strong community partnerships and dedicated effort, we successfully launched a sustainable Mobile Food Pantry model -  developed in close collaboration with agencies such as the Salvation Army who will continue this vital work to support neighbors throughout our communities. We also completed a comprehensive feasibility study informed by extensive feedback from service agencies across the food security network, providing local funders with clear, actionable insights to guide future investments.

While the project’s formal structure will wind down, our commitment to this work remains strong. We will continue to support regional collaboration by co‑leading the Access & Equity Community of Practice within Impact Austin's Food City initiative. In addition, we will maintain and update the Food Resource Directory and SNAP Directory, ensuring that individuals, families, and service providers continue to have access to accurate, up‑to‑date information.

The Hometown Food Security Project may be evolving, but the mission to strengthen food access and equity in our community continues. We look forward to the work ahead.
