Join United Way October 18 - 23 for our annual Day of Caring event! Day of Caring connects compassionate community members with local organizations and individuals in need of a helping hand. Volunteers can make a difference in two ways this year: in-person service projects and on-your-own supply drives.
Service Projects: Volunteer on October 23 from 10:00 - 12:00 at various sites
Salvation Army - indoor and outdoor cleaning and painting
Catherwood Childcare Center - indoor and outdoor cleaning
Children's Dental Health Services - indoor kit assembly
Senior Center - outdoor senior home maintenance
Supply Drives: Drop items off from October 18 - 23 between 9:00 - 4:00 at various sites
The Salvation Army in Austin strives to DO THE MOST GOOD in our community by assisting all those in need. For Day of Caring service project, volunteers will help with regular upkeep including indoor and outdoor painting. Tools and supplies will be provided on site. Masks will be required indoors.
Catherwood Home, which is overseen by the Parenting Resource Center, offers non-traditional child care services such as bi-lingual caregivers and non-standard hours daycare, as well as crisis services. Volunteers will help to spruce up the exterior of the home, and deep clean the inside of the building. Tools and supplies will be available on site.
Children's Dental Health Services (CDHS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing dental access barriers by providing a dental home to underserved children through comprehensive dental care and education. Volunteers will help pack dental kit packages for students in the area. Tools and supplies will be provided on site. Masks will be required.
This volunteer opportunity, in collaboration with the Mower County Senior Center CHORE program, assists in providing seniors over the age of 60 with the care they need to remain in their homes. Volunteers will be distributed among several senior residences in the area to perform lawn and yard maintenance, window cleaning, raking, gardening, and other services. We will do our best to keep teams together.
The Salvation Army Food Shelf and Community meals allows individuals and families in need to stretch their budgets and be able to receive a warm meal. Food donations can be dropped off at 409 1st Ave NE between 9 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from October 18th- 23rd. Please refer to the list below for food items needed
The Parenting Resource Center is in need of specific items to help provide resources, services and education to families within our community in order to promote healthy and safe lifestyles. Items needed include, Diapers, Baby Wipes, gently used children's clothing toys. Donations can be dropped off at the Catherwood home between 9 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from October 18th -23rd.
The Welcome Center greets newcomers, assists people in transition, and promotes access and economic opportunity in the area. New or Gently used adult sized coats are needed. Donation boxes will be located inside the building of 111 Main Street North between 9 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from October 18th - 23rd.
The Success Closet works closely with the administration, success coaches, social workers, and nurses at local schools to identify and meet the individual needs of their students. Hygiene supplies, clothing and outwear items are needed to help every child in Mower County have access to the basic necessities of life so that they can focus on their education. Donation boxes will be located inside the building of 111 Main Street North between 9 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from October 18th -23rd.
