United Way of Mower County

Day of Caring

Saturday May, 17th 2008

United Way's third annual Day of Caring was held May 17, 2008. It is a celebration of community volunteers giving ’One Day to Help One Another.’

75 volunteers came together Saturday to help complete 25 projects around Mower County.

Projects were primarily for elderly homeowners completing projects in and around their homes. Several non-profit agencies also had volunteers working diligently on projects.

We would like to thank those that were responsible for day of Caring's success; Our volunteers who gave of their time on Saturday to improve the lives of their neighbors: Team Holy Crows, Team LarsenAllen, Team Austin HRA, Team Osier, Team Grever, Team Welcome Center, Team YMCA, Team Morey Birthday Party Gang, Team Chris and Jane, Team Brooks, Team Goetz, Team Our Savior's, Team Bethlehem Free, Team American Red Cross and Team O.R.L.J.

The level of support we received from the community as well as local businesses was wonderful. KIMT-TV sponsored volunteer lunches, Games People Play provided t-shirts for the volunteers. Donut Connection contributed to the Kick Off Breakfast and Sherwin Williams donated all the paint used to paint a house in NE Austin. It may have seemed that volunteers were only doing yard work or washing a few windows, but the big picture was that they really were helping individuals stay self sufficient. Thank you to all who participated.
